On Sunday night, I had my first in-store book signing.  It was the most amazing thing - most, closely followed by my first three radio interviews in the last week!

The three radio interviews were on WVOX AM 1460 with Nick Sarames in New Rochelle, NY; Good Morning Hudson Valley with Bruce Owens on WHUD and WSTK, and Jordan Rich on WBZ in Boston.  I hope to have audio clips on this website soon.

Of course, I used the radio interviews to promote the in-store signings.  While I was signing the books at the book signing, these two cute girls came up to me and we started talking about Twilight and they wanted to buy a copy of my book as a result of their love for Stephanie Meyer's stuff.  I carded them.  It is a "bad" book, after all.  They were thirteen and eleven.  Uh... Hmmm.  OK.  I called over the store manager and explained my quandry - I really want to sell my books, but I'm not sure this is the most appropriate reading material for tweens.  But I really, really want to sell my books.  The manager said I should ask their mom, who was caught up in the mob of people buying books.  She comes over and I explain the issue.  She said she would buy the book, and read it first, and anything she thought was inappropriate, she'd just tear out of the binding.  That would leave her with a dust jacket and a pamphlet, but that was ok with me - it was okay with her, too, so... in the immortal words of Stephanie Meyer's Mormon leader, "bring 'em young."

And while all that is cool - it all adds up to another spectacular "big first" for me. During my signing on Sunday night, I checked on 5 books that were supposed to be there ahead of time – but no one could find them.  But I brought my own set of books, so no big deal as far as the signing went.  But where were those 5?  Well, the girl behind the counter, Sarah, a real sweetheart, calls me later that day to say she found them and put them on the Haunted Horrors table – next to all the other vampire / zombie things.  So the next day I go in, to pay my books a visit, and there are only four on the table.  So I said to Sarah, what’s the deal.  And she told me that between her phone call last night and my coming into the store that morning someone had bought a copy!

Oh. My. God!!!

Now, this isn’t the first and only copy I’ve sold.  Don’t get me wrong.  What it is, is, it’s the first copy I sold that I personally wasn’t actually there to sell!  Every other book was bought by someone who knew me or was at a signing and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. But neither of those things was true with this one sale. So, I’m totally psyched!

Here are the names of some people who have been really supportive of me lately - from behind the desk at my local Planet Fitness:

  • Amber Fernez - surprisingly sweet girl becuase of her hint of edge
  • Capryce Del Moral - so cute, absolutely edible
  • Ricardo Montalvo - good guy, really nice and helpful

Thanks for the enthusiasm for Bitter Things, guys - and for giving me another reason to get my flabby butt into a gym!

Bitter Things

Ok, I've read enough between Amazon.com and here to be intrigued and to buy your book, even though it's hardback. I'm hoping that the characters will lend themselves to a series? Overall I've enjoyed the Anita Blake series but would like to find another author who has the vampire romance, sex and violence, but more importantly, has a strong paranormal story line and good character development. Fingers crossed you are it.

Thanks for taking a chance, Valerie! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm it, too!

So...where was this elusive signing?
If it was in Barnes & Noble in hartsdale.... and if you had 5 copies of Autographed copies in there... then yeah... I bought one. LOL.
