On an Amazon thread on which I'm active, fellow author Kelly Abell mentioned a positive, uplifting experience with her writing that conjured a memory for me which I'd like to share here.
Kelly wrote: "I wanted to let you all know I got the coolest review ever for Haunted Destiny. A 6th grade teacher came to my book signing and bought a copy of Haunted Destiny for her classroom. She emailed me two days later and said one of the kids took the book right away and read it in two days. The review was,"The book is the greatest. I love books with ghosts and this was the best I've ever read!!!!! Peace Out!" I was thrilled that I encouraged a teen to read. What a nice compliment!"
This made me think: Wow, what great story! I think it's great she was able to inspire a 6th grader to read. In fact, a similar thing happened to me. A 6th-grader read Bitter Things, and his MOM came up to me and told me she'd been wanting to meet me ever since he picked up the book. "What kind of sick freak are you?!?!" she said. And then she proceeded to beat me over the head with her pocketbook.
...oh wait. Maybe that's not the same thing at all. Nevermind.
